Final with two great teams: Belgium against France

Eddy Leppens beat in the match against Turkey one of the stars of the tournament, Lütfi Cenet.

SAINT-BREVIN - Thanks to the wins of Eddy Merckx against Tayfun Tasdemir and Eddy Leppens against Lütfi Cenet the Belgian team has seeded for the final of the European championship in Saint Brevin. The opponent in the match for the gold medal, France, defeated Austria in the other semifinal.

Jérémy Bury flaunted in an excellent match again: he beat Andreas Efler 40-18 in eighteen innings. The difference of 22 caroms helped France to the finals, because Jérôme Barbeillon, who lost his match against Herbert Szivacz, spoiled only twelve caroms: 40-28 in 26 innings.

The big clash of this morning was the match between Belgium A, the reigning European champion, and Turkey, the world champion. The match was spectacular and was played at the very highest level.

Eddy Merckx scooped the victoray against Tayfun Tasdemir 40-32 in only thirteen innings, with a run of eleven as highlight. Eddy Leppens ultimately took advantage against Lütfi Cenet and won 40-38 in eighteen innings.

The Turkish star player of the championship couldn't equalize due to the new rules, which means that there is no equalizing inning. With seventeen innings, against eighteen for his opponent, Cenet had a slightly higher average than Leppens: 2.235 against 2.222. Cenet starred in the match with a run of thirteen.

Belgium and France will play the final this afternoon.
