Dutch players Glenn Hofman and Dick Jaspers start off on day two of the Games

CALI - Two Dutch players, an Ecuadorian and a Japanese start off day two in the first sessions of the World Games in Cali. Dick Jaspers, who defends his title, starts at 11.00 (18.00 CET) against Javier Teran from Ecuador.

The other Dutchman, Glenn Hoffman, who deserved his ticket with the third place at the European championship, shows up in the next round against Japanese O Takeshima.

Day two of the Games follows on from the first day’s rounds in which Marco Zanetti, Christian Rudolph, Murat Naci Coklu and Kyung-Roul Kim were the winners of the matches. That means among others that Zanetti and Rudolph, who played the final of the EC in Brandenburg, face each other again in Cali’s quarterfinals.

Dick Jaspers excelled so far in all World Games: twice he was runner-up, once, four years ago, the Dutchman won gold in the final against Torbjörn Blomdahl.

Javier Teran is the former Pan American champion, Glenn Hoffman was the European junior champion in 2009 and 2011 and O Takeshima surprised at the World championships in Lugo, where he was responsible for Filippos Kasidokostas’ elimination in the preliminary rounds, then defeated Dick Jaspers, but lost to Frédéric Caudron.

The other matches today in Cali:
Sameh Sidhom-Carlos Campino
Eddy Merckx-Frank Taylor.
